Welcome to 6th Grade Mathematics! To create the best learning environment possible, classroom expectations were developed for our students. I am requesting that you and your child read through these expectations carefully.

Parents, please complete the Student Information Sheet. Sign the last sheet indicating that you and your child have read thoroughly, and understood these policies as well as the policies outlined in the MCSD Code of Conduct.

    Communication:

I believe that communication with parents is crucial to a child’s achievement. For the quickest response, the best way to contact me is via e-mail cdavis@marion.k12.sc.us.  Also, questions and comments may be submitted on the ClassDojo app. Parents, please check your student’s account daily.

    Standards:

Our grades will be based on the South Carolina Board of Education standards.

    Daily Supplies:

    *School Issued Laptop

*Mathematics Binder (Ms. Davis will issue ONE TIME ONLY!)

    *Loose leave/Paper

    *Pencil/Pen

      Ruler

    *Colored Pencils (optional)

    Classroom Procedures and Work:

The goal of this class is to become the best mathematics scholar we can be. We will do this through creative/artistic projects, math drills, discussion and computer-based learning, just to name a few. At the start of the class period, students are expected to be signed in at their computers quietly, with their required daily supplies, ready to begin their Do Now work. Students should have all necessary materials and homework ready for class every day.

    Purpose:

The purpose of this course is to enable Sixth-grade math students to master basic operations, such as multiplying and dividing rational numbers, fractions and decimals. They should understand pre-algebra concepts, such as solving for single variables, and know how to use ratios and rates to compare data. Goals center on students' ability to solve equations, calculate probability, estimate, measure two- and three-dimensional figures and understand relationships between numbers.

    Homework:

    *Homework will be assigned weekly

*Homework is to be submitted each Friday through Microsoft Teams

(Paper copy is located in the student’s ELA Binder and Microsoft Teams assignment file)

    Class Expectations:

Students are to observe the rules stated in the MCSD Code of Student Conduct regarding attendance, dress code, and use of electronics. Furthermore, students are also expected to:

    1. Exhibit honesty, self-discipline, politeness, and respect to both the teacher and classmates at all times.
    2. Be prompt to class every day.
    3. Be prepared with all required materials.
    4. Be ready to learn.

    Classroom Agreements (Rules):

In Miss Davis’ class, every student will have an equal opportunity to become successful academically. To ensure the classroom is conducive to learning through virtual and face-to-face instruction, we will establish the C.H.A.M.P.S concept:

C– Conversation: Listen attentively and only use appropriate language

H– Help: Raise your hand and wait to speak.

A– Activity: Always follow directions the first time.

M– Movement: Always keep hands and feet to yourself.

P– Participation: Actively listening and raising hand to speak

S– Signal: Our signal to quiet down and give your attention is the “High Five” hand raised.

By honoring these agreements, students will be CHAMPS in the classroom!

Weekly Rewards & Consequences for Behavior:

Students will be able to earn stars for honoring agreements on a daily basis. Once a student has earned a set number of stars, he/she will earn a reward.

    • If the violation warrants, the consequences may be changed accordingly.
    • Please note that these rules and consequences are in addition to the rules and consequences specified in the District Code of Conduct.

    Late Work/Absent Work:

In case of unforeseen circumstances (ex: illness, inclement weather, ISS, OSS, field trip, absent, etc.) the student is solely responsible for requesting missed assignments and submitting assignments. All late work must be submitted within five days of the original due date in order for students to receive credit. Any assignment turned in after five days will have points deducted each day it is late.
