The South Carolina Junior Scholar Program Identifies 8th grade students with exceptional academic talent through qualifying scores on the PSAT.
The Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP) Identifies exceptional 7th grade students according to their scores on the SAT.
The Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (PASS) is given every year to assess students’ progress on state curriculum standards in Science and Social Studies.
SCREADY is given every year to assess students’ progress on state curriculum standards in Writing, language arts, and math.
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests are given to students three times each year to monitor their academic progress in reading, math, language arts, social studies and science.
End of Course (EOC) tests are given to Algebra I and English I students and students who are participating in high school courses.
CogAt for 2nd graders -Purpose of the Assessments:Districts are required to provide services for all gifted and talented students at the elementary and secondary levels. Students are identified for this program by demonstrating high performance ability or potential in academic and/or artistic areas. In accordance with State Board of Education regulation 43-220, the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) provides an aptitude and an achievement assessment for this purpose. Although the primary purpose of these assessments is to identify students for the Gifted and Talented programs, the student results can be useful to teachers as they examine their instructional practices and can help them identify teaching strategies for all students.
WIDA provides several assessments for use with English language learners. The W-APT (WIDA ACCESS Placement Test) is most often used as a screening test to determine the language level of students entering a school system.
